Penguins in B Decays

We report on recent progress in studying two aspects of B physics, in which penguin amplitudes play an important role: 1. Bounds on penguin pollution in B(t) → ππ constraining CKM parameters, and a lower bound on B → ππ improving precision in sin 2α. 2. A suggestion for measuring the photon polarization in electroweak penguin decay, B → K1(1400)γ, providing a precision test of the Standard Model.

Charming Penguins in B Decays

Full expressions of the B0 d → π+π− and B0 d → π0π0 amplitudes, given in terms of matrix elements of operators of the effective weak Hamiltonian, are used to study the dependence of the relevant branching ratios on the different contributions. The uncertainty in the extraction of the weak phase α from the measurement of the timedependent asymmetry in B0 d → π+π− decays is also analyzed. We find...

Penguins 2002 : Penguins in K → ππ Decays a

This talk contains a short overview of the history of the interplay of the weak and the strong interaction and CP -violation. It describes the phenomenology and the basic physics mechanisms involved in the Standard Model calculations of K → ππ decays with an emphasis on the evaluation of Penguin operator matrix-elements. a Presented at the Symposium and Workshop ”Continuous Advances in QCD 2002...

Electroweak Penguins and Two - Body B Decays

We discuss the role of electroweak penguins in B decays to two light pseudoscalar mesons. We confirm that the extraction of the weak phase α through the isospin analysis involving B → ππ decays is largely unaffected by such operators. However, the methods proposed to obtain weak and strong phases by relating B → ππ, B → πK and B → KK decays through flavor SU(3) will be invalidated if electrowea...

Equations of Motion for Effective Lagrangians and Penguins in Rare B-Decays

We study the application of the classical equations of motion (EOM) within the framework of an effective low-energy Lagrangian treated at the loop level. Gaugefixing and ghost terms, which enter naturally in the EOM, are found to lead to no physical effects — neither through operator mixing nor in matrix elements. Beyond first order in the effective interactions, contact terms have to be includ...
